People We Respect - 1
From the Cabalmaster:
We here at the Secret Worldwide Transit Cabal are truth-tellers, not whiners, starry-eyed Utopians or "Sappy" fudgemeisters. We draw inspiration from a 1968 broadcast, at the beginning of the "Prague Spring," that included the following line: "Those at the microphone are new men. We shall tell the truth." A "National Review" staff writer once described Malcolm X as "ruthlessly honest." We wouldn't mind if someone paid us a similar compliment.
We TransitCabalists are pro-transit, but not mindlessly pro-rail. We have a short list of "cities that do not deserve rail transit," and we'll post it as soon as we've researched all the details.
We also have a short list of People We Respect. At the top of this list are conservative leaders Paul M. Weyrich and William S. Lind of the Free Congress Foundation. We appreciate the efforts of Mr. Weyrich and Mr. Lind in support of effective public transit, including publicity, lobbying, several publications and a pro-rail website (see: www.trolleycar.org). However, that's not why we respect them.
Mr. Weyrich and Mr. Lind compete vigorously, and honestly, in the "marketplace of ideas." Readers can quickly separate facts and research findings (with verifiable references provided for independent verification) from inference, speculation and opinion. We would probably disagree with Mr. Weyrich and Mr. Lind on some topics, including some related to public transit, but that's beside the point. We respect Mr. Weyrich and Mr. Lind as honest, reasonable and open-minded advocates who set an example for others to follow.
